Oura and AMSA: Supporting Medical Students Building the Future of Care

AMSA and Oura Partner for Innofest
Today’s medical students will practice for 30 to 40 years. The habits, tools, and trust they build now will shape how they care for patients for most of that time. As wearables become ubiquitous and patients increasingly bring their device data into the clinic or hospital, physicians need to be prepared to interpret, trust, and understand the value of the data. As the leading smart ring company, Oura is partnering with the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and serving as Presenting Sponsor of InnoFest 2026 to invest in the education of future physicians.
AMSA is the largest and oldest independent association of physicians-in-training in the US, with more than 30,000 members and over seven decades of history.
“One of my biggest priorities as AMSA President is making sure students see themselves as people who can change healthcare, even while they’re still learning to practice it. As future physicians, we need to ask who a new technology helps, whether patients can access it, and how it can make their care better. Oura’s support of InnoFest gives students a platform to explore those questions and turn their own ideas into solutions that put patients first,” said AMSA National President, Sara Amini.
A personal connection to AMSA
For Dr. Chris Curry, this partnership is personal. As a medical student, Dr. Curry was an AMSA member and leader. She will deliver the InnoFest keynote and serve as a judge for the pitch competition. During the pitch competition, students will present their real-world solutions such as functional tools, applications, platforms, or products that expand access to quality healthcare to a panel of practicing physicians.
“AMSA is a trusted organization that provides students with the training and experience to lead, use their voice, and challenge the status quo. Oura is excited to be part of challenging the limits of how healthcare is delivered now, and imagining a different, more equitable future for healthcare.” said Dr. Chris Curry, Clinical Director, Women’s Health at Oura
Why Oura matters to future physicians
-
Their patients are already wearing it. Future physicians will see patients who arrive with sleep, activity, women’s health and Symptom Radar data from their own devices. Understanding Oura Ring data that patients are either sending through patient portal apps or on their phones during visits will help clinicians meet patients where they are.
-
It builds fluency in continuous health data. Current medical training centers on single moments such as an acute clinic visit or an annual lab draw. Oura offers a way to see day-to-day health patterns longitudinally as well as deviations from baseline. This partnership builds fluency in the interpretation of continuous health data that medical students can apply once they start caring for patients.
-
Firsthand experience builds confidence. Clinicians who wear Oura themselves understand it as users, not just observers. That experience makes it easier to talk about wearables with patients honestly and with confidence about how it might support their health goals – from increasing fitness to understanding the impact of menopause symptoms on their life.
-
Oura is investing in their education. Beyond InnoFest, Oura offers clinician-facing guides, a dedicated Resources page that includes information on the clinical utility of select Oura features, as well as clinician webinars. These multiple touch points provide students and residents with educational materials they can engage with over time and refer back to.
What to expect at InnoFest 2026
InnoFest runs December 10–12, 2026, at the Bethesda North Marriott, as part of AMSA’s Future Physicians for Change convention. Now in its second year, it is run entirely by AMSA’s Innovation Committee, a team of pre-med and medical students. Students pitch real digital health tools to physician-entrepreneurs and investors, and more than 500 attendees are expected.
Oura will have a booth on the innovation floor. Stop by to meet the Oura team and see what the next generation of care could look like.
